Frequently Asked Questions
Can I join the program without any trucking experience?
Yes! The application and interview process will assess your experience in business and overall fit for the program. Though the selection process is competitive, trucking experience is not required. The Amazon Freight Partner program includes a training program designed to teach new owners all about the trucking industry. Learn more about the Accelerator
here.
Do I need to have a commercial driver’s license to join the program?
No. You do not need a commercial driver's license to be an Amazon Freight Partner. As an owner, you will recruit, hire, and lead a team of high-performing commercial drivers.
Can I apply and operate as an AFP Owner with one or more partners?
Only one person may apply per application to become an Amazon Freight Partner (AFP) owner. We do not accept applications from companies or groups and may disqualify applicants who have relationships or interest with persons or entities that are already in business with Amazon. For example, any person with an interest (equity, financial, debt, contract, or other) in a Delivery Service Partner (DSP) or AFP business may not have an interest in any other DSP or AFP business. Additionally, AFPs may not have a spouse or partner with an existing DSP or AFP business.
During the interview process, we will only interview the applicant/owner. The applicant/owner’s experience and skills must be able to address all interview questions. If accepted into the program, the applicant/owner will sign the AFP Agreement and will be required to attend all trainings. The applicant/owner may elect to hire and train other employees as needed, but the applicant/owner will remain the main point of contact for Amazon Freight Partner leaders and Business Coaches.
What should I consider before applying to the Amazon Freight Partner (AFP) program?
We are looking for candidates who love building and growing teams and have the grit and leadership required to roll up their sleeves and deliver results. Running a trucking business is hard work and a hands-on operation. This opportunity may not be a good fit for those looking to make a passive investment, work part-time, or run a trucking business in multiple locations/regions.
We look at a wide range of information on each applicant, including work history, education, and financial information, to determine eligibility for the program. Candidates must have $40K in cash assets.
If you feel that you could be a good fit, we encourage you to
request information and learn more.
Are there any resources available to learn more about the program?
We encourage you to attend one of our information sessions to learn more about the program. As you progress in the application process, you will have a chance to attend sessions with current Amazon Freight Partners and Amazon Business Development Managers to address your specific questions.
Request information to learn how to register for an information session.
What are your plans to expand the program into other cities?
We are continually growing this program to empower more entrepreneurs to create jobs for their communities. A list of our current locations can be found
here. Please indicate which city you’re interested in operating out of when you request information. If we don’t have an opening in your preferred location, we will add you to our interest list so that you may be among the first to apply when available.
I’d like to operate an Amazon Freight Partner business in multiple locations—is that possible?
The Amazon Freight Partner program is currently designed for owners to operate within a single location.
Can I be an Amazon Freight Partner outside of the United States?
In addition to the United States, Amazon Freight Partner is active in the
United Kingdom and
Germany.
What is the difference between the Amazon Freight Partner program and the Delivery Service Partner program?
Amazon Freight Partners (AFPs) move Amazon freight between sites, such as warehouses and delivery stations, within the Amazon network. Your company would hire 20–45 commercial drivers to operate a fleet of state-of-the-art trucks provided by Amazon. You would choose where to operate your AFP business: in a rented space, home office, or other location.
Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) start, operate, and grow a package delivery business in their local communities. They operate out of an Amazon delivery station and manage a fleet of 20-40 vans on average. DSPs focus on building a safety-first work culture and recruiting, hiring and coaching a team of 40-100 high-performing employees who are responsible for delivering Amazon packages from the delivery station to the customers’ door. Learn more
here.
Can I apply and operate an AFP if I currently operate as a Delivery Service Partner (DSP)?
No. An individual may not own and operate both a DSP and an AFP. Any person with an interest (equity, financial, debt, contract, or other) in a DSP or AFP business may not have an interest in any other DSP or AFP business. Additionally, AFPs may not have a spouse or partner with an existing DSP or AFP business.
How will you help me keep my drivers safe?
Safety is our top priority and we provide you with the tools to build a safety-first culture with your team. Amazon branded trucks offer leading advanced driver assistance systems including collision avoidance systems with active braking, lane departure warning, and blind spot detection. Amazon also offers unlimited access to online driver training and in-truck video camera safety technology, which can record in-cab and external events when triggered by certain safety incidents or when manually activated by a driver. This technology gives your company the opportunity to provide more risk awareness training, and tailored coaching specifically for your company’s drivers.
In addition to safety technology, as a new Amazon Freight Partner, you will participate in a comprehensive safety and Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance training to support you as you start your company.
Can I operate in multiple program types for Amazon?
If you choose to join the Amazon Freight Partner (AFP) program you can only operate within AFP and Post A Truck. You get consistent work with AFP, and Post A Truck gives you the ability to take on more. Post A Truck lets you share when your trucks are available and can automatically match them to available loads.
How many day cabs will Amazon provide?
Amazon expects to provide Amazon Freight Partners with 10-20 day cabs. However, there is no guarantee that your company will receive 10 day cabs or grow to 20 day cabs. Growing to 20 day cabs is based on a combination of factors, including but not limited to your safety and performance scores, and available demand where your company operates.
Do I have to start with all 10 trucks at once?
No, you will start with one to three trucks. Your Business Coach will work with you on a timeline to ramp up to 10 trucks, although there is no guarantee that your company will receive 10 trucks.
What costs does Amazon cover?
Amazon will provide trucks to you without down payment and cover all planned and most unplanned maintenance. We will also cover all tolls and fuel costs.
We also provide exclusive offers designed to reduce your business costs, including employee health care, truck insurance, legal and HR services, truck washes, and more.
How much money will I make?
Your company’s actual annual revenues and profits will vary based on a number of expected and unexpected factors such as, for example, fleet size, regional operational costs, the number of hours your company operates, and how effectively you manage your team and overall business. We estimate that most partners will generate $1.5M–$3.5M in revenue and $100K–$300K in profit annually. These ranges are estimates only for companies operating 10 to 20 day cabs. Actual results will vary. Details can be found
here.
If you continue with the application process, we will share more detail and you’ll have the ability to review the rate card and evaluate all of your financials to see if this program is right for you.
If I were to exit the program, what would my costs be to do so?
Currently, Amazon does not charge a fee for exiting the program.
What kind of operation do Amazon Freight Partners manage?
Amazon Freight Partners use state of the art semi-trucks to carry freight across the Amazon network of warehouses and delivery stations.
The current program includes only 13-hour shifts with round-trip tours. This schedule allows your drivers to be home at the end of every shift.
What do I do if I already have trucks?
Currently, you can use your day cab trucks that are less than 5 years old. If you use your own trucks, you're responsible for their compliance, maintenance, repair, and storage. We are constantly assessing this situation and the latest information is included in the application process.
Does Amazon offer help to recruit drivers?
Yes! Amazon provides tools and guidance to help you recruit, train, and retain high performing commercial drivers. You'll also have access to professional recruiters, staffing agencies, and advertising support to help meet your hiring needs.
